Come on over to http://zoo.scribbl.me.uk/ for my new site. It's all Wordpressy. I will continue the NaBloPoMo stuff there.

Time to make a new blog...

http://zoo.scribbl.me.uk is coming...soonish.

At the moment it's a very barren Wordpress site. It will improve.

Bunny - stairs are climbed
Hellgate - good

More tomorrow, need groceries and dinner.

edit: http://zoo.scribbl.me.uk/ is active and aliased from http://scribbl.me.uk/... My Hosting provider assures me http://www.scribbl.me.uk works at their end, at my end I get a DNS error ;-)

Cheating

Let's try to do this one a day in November thing.

And since I'm a day late and a dollar short, let's cheat.

Things may get ropey on Holiday, but we'll see...

Soooooo... Leopard? PCWorld sells it. Who knew, I didn't. I went in for cable wrap for the new bunny (Hello Jet! You drink that Baytril laced water guy!) and walked out with a new OS for my laptop.

Install is easy. Surprisingly easy. I advise people who are waiting to pull the trigger to do it. I Carbon Copy Cloned my Tiger install. Tested it by booting (slowly) off the USB drive it was on. Then did an Erase and Clean install of Leopard. In the install it asked did I want to migrate. I said yes and pointed it at my Tiger backup. It brought everything I need over, my applications, my iTunes, everything. Very neat.

Now if only DownThemAll! downloads were added to the Downloads stack.

So far I like it, though the startup FEELS slower by the time Skype and Adium load...

"Tomorrow" I'll talk about Hellgate: London and possibly sick bunnies.

Lack of guild drama

I was re-reading all the nonsense I've posted here. Which is I realise a lot less than I could have. And I noticed my whole no guild sucking thing.

And I thought I'd better point out that we have in fact found a real home on The Maelstrom(EU) in Repent. The guys and gals there are nice and fun and manage to be both "hardcore" and "casual" enough for us. Which is to say they raid but in a nice relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

It's rather pleasant. We drifted from guild to guild a bit after Overrated, took a break, came back, joined Repent, took a break, ended up in the imba but short-lived dHb and then the lovely Repenties took us back when it went titsup.com

So, just so you know, WOW still addictive as crack. The Mrs has a 70 Hunter, I have a 70 Warlock and my old Paladin's 70 now too. And we're raiding with actual nice folk, which is very pleasant and makes the game fun and social and not just a single-player game that a lot of folk are playing.

Love and Marriage and Finishing the Fight

I'm actually very lucky.

Insanely lucky.

I married a geeky girl and a gamer girl.

And a girl whose Hunter can out DPS my Warlock any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

And she puts up with the WOWing (although she's often complicit in that one) and the buying of the extra PCs "for a media center" and "because that media center laptop/Xbox 360 combo didn't do what I wanted" and the MacBook "for work" and the cool Air Mouse / diNovo Edge because "the keyboard/mouse the Media PC came with suck".

And tonight she's putting up with an 18 mile round trip to Belfast for a midnight opening of Game to buy Halo 3. Knowing I will come home and go straight to bed. And then not play it until I finish work tomorrow anyway. Because even though as she says "that's stupid" part of me likes hype.

And part of me listened to the Bungie Podcast and is now excited.

And most of all I'm lucky because I know that when I'm sucking at FPSes as I suck at all games that quite amazingly I am actually married to someone for whom the suggestion of "do you want to finish Halo 3 on co-op with me" does not have the same answer as "do you want to inject poison into your eyeballs"...

So I'm quite lucky all in all.

And tomorrow, tomorrow we pwn Covenant until there's none left to pwn.

Robin Williams movie

OK, so we went to see Licence to Wed. And it's a poor movie. But I did laugh a fair bit. And I was quite impressed that at no point did they make any of the obvious RomCom choices (having the female lead's male best friend NOT be in love with her was a breath of fresh air)... So overall I recommend it.

Ironic as it is not as good as the Simpsons movie, but I would NOT recommend going to the cinema for the Simpsons as it's just not AS good as I hoped... Merely an A not an A+

So the Mac thing worked out well...

Let's get a new desktop.

Only... You know... With Vista.

So far... So meh. It starts fast. That's about all I can say that's positive. Oh and Flip 3D! is cute of course.

It's Blue Screened once, and freezes with both cores on 100% for a few moments at a time.

What is the hugely CPU intensive task? Installing WoW...

There's not so much of a bunny shaped hole in the house any more. Certainly the bunny filling it is smaller, fuzzier and... oranger than the previous incumbent. But there's a new Lionhead in town. Kon.

And he's cuter than a truck full of kittens with LOLcat captions. He's not Yuki, which is important, and he won't fill the Yuki shaped hole, but the more generic bunny hole is full again.

We no longer have 2 house rabbits. Yuki, our Mini-Lop, had problems with malocclusion all his tiny life, and went into the Vet's to get a dental on Friday. He didn't wake up again. He was 18 months old, which is a lot less than the 5 to 7 years we'd hoped to have with him. He was a little bundle of joy and we miss him very much.

Switching... or not. Not mostly

I'm not a switcher.

Yes, yes, there's a MacBook in the house. And yes I've already ordered 2gigs of RAM for it, set WOW up with my (odd) UI and installed loads of games, widgets and freeware / open source goodies.

But I'm not switching.

I just needed a new laptop (since any settings changes on the "media" laptop would render it...not working with the Xbox 360, and it's tied into the TV thing fairly tightly) and the MacBook is cheaper than some thin notebooks, cheaper than the good ones, faster than many and SMALLER than cheap laptops (the media laptop looks like Goliath to its David).

So I have a Mac, why? Just to play with. And do presentations on. And because my last Mac experience was System 7 back in school and, ugh, words fail. OS X is... better. I've not got Vista so can't compare, but I like OS X a lot.

But I'm not switching, the main games PC and the media server are still Windows through and through.

I'm off work today, but the other half isn't...

So do I spend it...

Playing Gears of War (no, we're co-oping the game, which is way more fun!)

Playing The Burning Crusade (we're trying to level at the same rate, but I do have an alt or two, but the ganking on the Beta server is out of hand at the moment, kill 1 quest mob, get ganked by level 68 rogues 3 times in the level 58-62 zone AAAARGH!)

Playing Resistance : Fall of Man (could work, looks fun!)

Waiting for the parcel with PS3 Tony Hawk's Project 8 and Viva Pinata (which was meant to come on THURSDAY! And I know 360 THP8 is better looking, but I want something to use the Sixaxis for).

So again I sit, blogging, as I am paralysed by choice :-(

In which our hero considers Blu-ray

I was always an HD-DVD booster.

Don't know why, just was.

The under-dog perhaps?

Or Toshiba vs Sony in a fight to the death?

Or it just sounded better?

Or it just sounded...cheaper?

So due to circumstances beyond my control (Microsoft delayed the HD-DVD addon for the 360 and Sony let me get a PS3 despite their dire warnings that it could lead to death / taxes / other badness if imported to the UK) I now have a Blu-ray player, but not an HD-DVD player. And... I like it, quite a lot really. I have a US copy of Knight's Tale and a UK Ultraviolet. Both are MPEG2 so not the new sexy VC-1 codec, but nonetheless they look, nice, on my TV :-) Nicer than Sky HD at any rate, and far nicer than DVD.

Will I still get HD-DVD? Yeah, of course I will... Will I still consider the Tosh HD-E1 / HD-XE1 like I was 3 months ago? Perhaps not... The add-on will do fine, when it finally appears.

Now would someone please release some movies I WANT TO WATCH?

Since my hard drive went boom all my photos have lived on flickr. Only there. If I want to see them I go and view them same as everyone else.

For reasons which will become apparent in 2 weeks I am looking at ALL my photos again.

And the nice thing is remembering so many things I'd forgotten. I'm sitting here with a huge grin from ear to ear and a worn down right mouse button from saving the original image ;-)

PS3 in the house

The PS3 has decamped from mum and dad's to our house, where it has been connected to the 1080i TV :-)

This is a very good thing.

The games are good, for a given value of good. Gundam is jerky as hell (bad) but prettier than I had been lead to believe (good). It's an odd mix of strategy and finnicky action game with strange "recruit people and upgrade mechs" bits between the missions. I am not convinced it's QUITE as bad as the reviews, say, but it's also not by any stretch a good game.

Resistance: Fall of Man on the other hand is a thing of beauty. It's pretty, it controls well, it's fun to play. Magical.

And Tony Hawk's Project 8 - missing somewhere in a FedEx shipment now 2 days overdue along with Viva Pinata (mostly for the missus, mostly).

Oddly Gears of War looks far better than any PS3 game, but then again it's not a release title is it? Gears is also VERY fun.

Yet miraculously it still works... And at 240V as well.
